MATHpardy - Review Game

MATHpardy Madness! A Fun and Engaging Way to Review with Students

Let me introduce you to a classroom favorite that’s bringing learning and laughter together in the best way – MATHpardy! Think “Jeopardy,” but with a math twist that’s all about engaging, reinforcing, and having fun while reviewing essential math skills. Here’s why my students (and I!) love it:

Easy to Set Up & Play

With everything clickable, running the game is a breeze! From the main game board, you can simply click on the topic and value to bring up a question. Once you’re done, click again for the answer, do a quick mini-review if needed, and then head back to the main board to keep the game rolling.

How We Play: Teamwork & Friendly Competition

I split the class into two-person teams, each equipped with a dry erase board and a “bank” (a plastic baggie) to collect their winnings. Here’s where the teamwork kicks in: students work together, taking turns as the “writer” and the “checker,” to solve the questions in the set amount of time. When they’re ready, they pop a thumb up, and I come around to check their answers. If they’re correct, they earn Place Value disks (a big hit) to add to their bank. This process lets me touch base with each team, giving quick reteach moments or tips before diving into the next question.

The Big Finale: FINAL MATHpardy!

The game isn’t over until we hit FINAL MATHpardy! Here, students choose how much they want to wager based on their confidence with the material. I encourage them to talk it out with their partner – “Is this worth the risk?” – as the final question is no joke! These discussions are pure magic, revealing students’ understanding in a new light.

Counting Our “Winnings”

At the end, each team counts and organizes their Place Value disks, writing down their totals on their whiteboards. This step doubles as reinforcement since they’re working with place values, counting by tens, hundreds, and thousands. After a quick double-check from me, they can exchange their “earnings” for ClassDojo points (500 = 1 point, 600 = 2, etc.), making the game feel even more rewarding!

Why MATHpardy Works So Well

One reason I love MATHpardy is that it brings everyone into the game. I’ve tried Kahoot! (which is super fun!), but I noticed that some students felt discouraged if they didn’t make the top ranks. MATHpardy keeps everyone involved, and the teamwork aspect gives each student a role and support system. Plus, it’s a built-in opportunity for reteaching, which is just chef’s kiss for us teachers!

Bonus Fun for Families

After we play in class, I send a link home so families can join in the fun too. Watching kids light up as they teach their family members how to play is just the cherry on top!

MATHpardy has become such a fun tradition for review days – it’s a blend of learning, teamwork, and a little friendly competition. If you’re looking for a way to bring a little more “game show” energy into your math class, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Kinder Kid at Heart

I've been a teacher for 16 years! I am Nationally Board Certified in Early Childhood Education and have worked hard each day to meet the needs of each student in my classroom! I taught Kindergarten for 13 years and transitioned to Gifted 1st Grade (2nd Grade curriculum). I loved both grade levels & have made many resources to help my students (and me!) be successful! I also enjoy traveling, eating yummy meals (IG: my.food.source to follow along with the meals my BF makes!) and trying new things.
